Grant Morrison, the renowned writer of The Invisibles, All Star Superman, JLA, New X-Men, Batman, and the upcoming Final Crisis will be a Guest of Honor at the New York Comic Con, which will be held at the Jacob Javits Center from April 18-20th, 2008.
The New York Comic Con has also announced a number of additional featured guests including: Charles Adlard (Walking Dead), Terry Brooks (Strangers in Paradise), Duncan Fegredo (Hellboy), Irwin Hasen (creator of JSA character, Wildcat), Tony Moore (Walking Dead), Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), Sean Phillips (Criminal), Eric Powell (The Goon), Rick Remender (Fear Agent), Leonard Starr (Golden Age artist), and Chris Weston (The Twelve).
The Dabel Brothers are developing a new comic book project with pop/emo-rock band Fall Out Boy (fans of the band and The Simpsons know the band’s name is based on the sidekick of Bart’s favorite superhero, Radioactive Man). The project will be produced in collaboration with the band with heavy involvement in particular from bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley. Hurley, a lifelong comics fan, noted that the project provided “the opportunity to create different versions of ourselves and tell an interesting story at the same time.”
The Dabels have previously concentrated on literary adaptations. This is similar to other Dabel projects because Fall Out Boy brings a built-in audience. Infinity on High, the band’s most recent album, debuted at #1 last year; From Under the Cork Tree, its predecessor, sold over three million copies.
The new comic book series is set to debut later this year.
From an icv2.com announcement

Paramount has moved the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie, which was originally scheduled to debut on Christmas Day, to May 8th, 2009. Paramount says that the Star Trek film is on schedule and could have opened at Christmas, but is being moved because it has real “tent-pole” potential. -From an icv2.com announcement
Can’t wait until Spring 2009? CBH has Star Trek comics! We have the full set of Checker trade paperbacks (tpbs) collecting the original Gold Key series from the 1960s. Star Wars hits the big screen again as the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars feature film premieres in theaters on August 15th. The Lucasfilm Animation film features state-of-the-art computer animation, and will be followed up with the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series this fall on the Cartoon Network and TNT. So far Lucasfilm Animation has produced more than 30 thirty-minute episodes of the new Clone Wars series.
Each thirty-minute episode of the TV series will have a self-contained narrative that ties in to the overall Clone Wars saga. The series will include pre-existing characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, Emperor Palpatine, Count Doku and General Grievous along with brand new characters like Anakin’s padawan, Ahsoka.
From an announcement on icv2.com
CBH carries the Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures digest-sized books. Each book contains four complete new stories done in the style of the Clone Wars animated TV show. The series is up to Volume 10 so far. Click for a preview.

Mark Evanier is reporting at his site that comics writer Steve Gerber died Feb. 11 after “a long, painful illness. For the last year or so, he was in and out of hospitals and had just become a ‘candidate’ for a lung transplant. He had pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that literally turns the lungs to scar tissue and steadily reduces their ability to function. Steve insisted that his affliction had nothing to do with his lifelong, incessant consumption of tobacco — an addiction he only recently quit for reasons of medical necessity. None of his friends believe that, but Steve did.”
The above announcement is directly from CBGXtra.com.
Steve Gerber will be missed by the CBH crew. Howard the Duck and Man-Thing were mind-expanding for me and pointed me in new directions as a comics reader. Gerber’s Defenders book was an excellent left turn for superhero comics. I remember his Nevada book fondly.
Many people have more articulate and informed things to say about Steve Gerber than I:
Finally, an important direct quote from Evanier
“Lastly for now, Paul Levitz had a wise suggestion. The Hero Initiative, a charity group that helps ailing comic book creators, had been doing a lot for Steve recently. It would be a nice thought to remember him with a donation in his name. Here’s a link to their website.”

Drew Goddard, screenwriter of Cloverfield, the J.J. Abrams production currently storming the box office, will write Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer starting with #12.
This series continues the adventures of Buffy Summers as a comic book version of “Season Eight†of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV program. It picks up months after the seventh season’s explosive conclusion. Goddard made his scriptwriting debut on TV’s seventh season of Buffy and returns to Joss Whedon’s franchise with issue #12, joined by artist Georges Jeanty. Goddard begins his four-issue “Wolves at the Gate†storyline here, sending Buffy, Dawn and the rest of the vampire-hunting team to Tokyo to battle nocturnal bloodsuckers with particularly bizarre powers.
