What’s the Greatest TOY of All Time? This Year’s MENSA Challenge!

I tell ya, those folks at MENSA must be designing each year’s contest with Captain Blue Hen customers in mind! This year – Mensa and the general public pick the greatest TOY of all time!

Narrowing down all of the toys through the ages to a list of 64 had to be difficult and the October issue of the MENSA BULLETIN gives us a glimpse into why each toy on the list was chosen. They started off by eliminating any board games from consideration. Like the NCAA basketball brackets, there are 4 regions of 16. The regions are: Timeless, Pre-1950, 1950-1980, and 1980 to Present.

I’m not going to reveal the selections at this time to give you and your friends an opportunity to discuss what should be included. What makes a toy great? You decide, and this year, Mensa is allowing everyone to be a part of the voting! All are invited to go to either Facebook.com/AmericanMensa and/or Twitter.com/AmericanMensa to follow the action. Voting for the first round begins next Monday, October 15th. The results will be announced and round two voting starts on October 22nd. Round three on the 29th, and so on, until the finals start on November 19th. The winner will be announced in the January issue of the magazine.

Again, Captain Blue Hen Comics will be having an in-store contest. Our lead-in time is a little shorter than in the past since I just received my copy of the magazine; but, I will have entry forms and leave copies of the article with each toy’s “resume” for quick referral by Thursday, October 11th. Since voting for the first round ends on Sunday, October 21st, you must stop by the shop to get your entry form and drop it off by then to be eligible to win! Mensa appears to be fine with us swiping their game for our own use and actually seems to encourage it. We have Roger Brooks and Hilary Moore, and I’m sure others at Mensa, to thank for their efforts.

Let’s get ready to rumble!
