First, a short PSA – My wife receives alerts from police agencies regarding email scams (why these aren’t published in the newspaper is beyond me). The most recent one warns against opening any email that alleges it is from New York City and that you have a traffic ticket. Do not open it! I probably didn’t need to tell our CBH website users since they are “smarter than the average bear” anyway.
Now, a BIG PSA! Our auction catalog is close to being finished – now OVER 200 lots!!There may be last minute additions, which we will note, but everything will be available for inspection starting Monday, August 29th. Absentee bidding begins then, also. LIVE auction is Monday, September 5th!

Following is a list of lots up for bids in a live auction to be held at Captain Blue Hen Comics & Entertainment (280 E. Main St. Newark, Delaware 302 – 737 – 3434) on Monday, September 5, 2011, starting at approximately 1:00 PM. Inspection of the lots will be made available to the public starting Monday, August 29, 2011 and up until the start of the live bidding. For those not able to attend, we are accepting absentee bids through Sunday, September 4, 2011.
Before each lot’s description is the lot number (a letter, then a number) and the Minimum Acceptable Bid written within parenthesis. There are no reserves, otherwise. This is an absolute auction. Also, No Buyer’s premiums will be added to your bid! And, of course, since this is Delaware, No Sales Tax!
“A” before the lot number indicates that the item(s) can be found in an Album on the counter.
“B” before the number indicates that this is a collection, set, run, or trade and is stored in a Bin.
“C” means that due to size and shape, it is located one of the glass Cases.
A1 ($100) The Jim Lee “RRP” JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 sketch variant! These have not been publicly advertised or offered as they will be sent ONLY to those retailers who attended one of the DC “launch’ summits. WE DID! These will definitely be scarcer than the Finch 1:200 variants and will arrive after this auction has ended. Winning bidder will be notified when we receive our copy.
A2 ($100) The 1 in 200 variant of Justice League # 1 a Finch sketch cover! This should arrive on Wednesday, 8/31 and be available to the winner bidder immediately. Check what they are bringing on eBay already!
A3 ($30) AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 a very nice copy featuring the first full Venom story! Overstreet lists this in “NM” at $150
A4 ($25) WOLVERINE #1 a nice copy of the first issue of the 1982 mini series by Miller and Claremont Overstreet “NM” is $75
A5 ($5) JOHNNY a comic tribute to John Lennon of the Beatles! Not listed in Overstreet!
A6 ($5) UNCANNY X-MEN # 143 a nice copy of the last Byrne issue. Overstreet “NM” is $70
A7 ($5) OVERSTREET Price Update #1 This a supplement to Volume #12 and pre-dates the launch of the failed “Fan” monthly guide by Overstreet. Old prices, but fun to look at – it only listed silver age to 1982 Marvel & DC’s. Remember when you could buy a Mint copy of Amazing Fantasy # 15 for $1200?!
A8 ($5) HERO ILLUSTRATED #1 Another slick fanzine, this came out in July, 1993 as competition to the already established WIZARD price guide/fanzine. Like “Fan”, “Wizard”, “The Comics Value Monthly” (the only one Paul used when still being printed), it has also gone by the wayside. Still, it’s a first issue and a small piece of comic book history
