Another Yard sale – Another Sore Back – C.H.U.D. this Week and AUCTION NEWS!

Several weeks after hossing 50 plus long boxes of comics up and down the driveway two times each, my back is finally feeling better. For those who missed a previous blog, I had a two day yard sale and all-in-all, it went fairly well.

One gentleman showed up with his family on Saturday morning and started going through the unorganized boxes. With wife and kids in tow, he had enough sense to not spend too much time and told me that he would be back later. True to his word, he showed up a few hours later and this time with a fellow comic collector. Then, he showed up again on Sunday!

I gave away the R2-D2 cooler that I had to a young Star Wars fan. His parents said that his room was completely done up in a Star Wars motif, so when he asked how much it was, I told him, “It’s yours.” – then apologized to his folks.
Among my other sales, I sold a few beanie babies, a couple of those little galvanized buckets – stuff I couldn’t turn down at auctions -, and two Lincoln penny sets – even a Rolex watch for 2 bucks! How many “X”‘s are in Rolex? I was asked when I would do it again – probably next month, since I now have signage that is ready to go!

BUT, I’m hauling the majority of those boxes this weekend to the Cherry Hill C.H.U.D. show this Sunday the 14th. C.H.U.D. stands for Comics Here Under a Dollar and is a bargain hunter’s dream. Vendors may only bring comics they are willing to part with for a buck a book or less – and I will be adhering to those rules. SPECIAL – SPECIAL – SPECIAL for CBH website readers ONLY!! Stop by the shop between now and Sunday, pick up a C.H.U.D. flyer (they’re by the soda machine), be sure it has a CBH stamp on it, bring it to my tables, and I will cut your cost IN HALF when you purchase from me on Sunday!! This is the ONLY place this extra special sale is being advertised. Again, you must bring the flyer with you to get this special – no exceptions.

GOING… GOING… SOLD! yep, we ARE having a live auction on Labor Day! Forms and items up for grabs will be displayed in the store shortly, but here’s the skinny:

As mentioned above, items and lots will be made available for inspection shortly. Keep coming back as we may be adding up the last minute;

Some FAQ’s:
1). I’m not going to be around on Labor Day. Anyway I can place a bid on lots I just gotta have?
Ans. Of course! We will allow absentee bids up through the end of the day on Sunday, September 4th. You will need to enter your starting and maximum bid for each lot you wish to win. Should two or more people place absentee bids on the same lots, we will be bidding for that person who has the highest maximum. Should that still be a tie, we will bid for the person who has the highest starting bid. Most all items will have a “reserve’ so naturally, starting bids must be at least that amount. If you are the winner of any lots, you will be called on Tuesday, September 6th, and it is expected that you pay for and pick up your lots won by Saturday, September 10th.
2). I have some stuff I’d like to sell. Is Captain Blue Hen taking consignments for this auction?
Ans. YES, but we reserve the right to limit the amount of lots per person and what we will accept on consignment. For one thing, we do NOT want large lots.
3). Okay, great, but is Captain Blue Hen going to charge a fee for these consignments?
Ans. YES. Consignors will be charged a minimum of one dollar per lot, regardless of whether it sells or not. Consignors must establish a reserve of at least $5.00 for each lot accepted. The reserve will be noted in the auction listing. Captain Blue Hen will receive 20% of the final selling price of all lots sold. Since all lots must sell for at least $5.00, your One dollar per lot is covered for those lots that sell. You are still charged one dollar should a lot NOT sell, so bring items that will have a broad interest.
4). Sounds fair. When would I get paid for lots I sold and be able to pick up those unsold?
Ans. Stop by the shop starting Thursday, September 8th and we will be ready for you. Remember, we still have our weekly arrivals to prepare for and will have to wait for some absentee bidders to come and pay for their lots.
5). I’m interested in this and will probably place some bids, BUT, will Captain Blue Hen be charging a “buyer’s premium” as so many other auctions do?
Ans. NO! Your bid is your final cost – no buyer’s “penalty”, no taxes (for you out-of-state bidders), no hidden fees!
6). So when does the “live” portion of the auction start?
Ans. 1:00 PM on Monday, September 5th – Labor day! Get there early to register and inspect the lots. As soon as the auction has ended, you may pay for and take your winnings with you. CASH is definitely preferred!
