Golden Age Comic Collection Unearthed in the Captain Blue Hen Catacombs! Action #1 & More!
Similar to the recent resurfacing of Nicholas Cage‘s copy of Action Comics #1 after 10 years, an even more impressive collection of Golden Age comics has been found in the back room of Captain Blue Hen Comics!!
It’s been almost 10 years since Joe bought the shop from Paul and he got everything that was in the shop. During the recent excavation and cleaning of the shop during our preparation for Free Comic Book Day, not only a copy of Action Comics #1 was found, but issues 2 -5 as well, AND… ready for this? …The first 5 issues of Detective Comics, All Winners, The Human Torch, Captain America, Submariner, All Star Comics, and Marvel Comics. The 2010 Overstreet lists this group at roughly $4,000,000 in “NM”. Right, fat chance getting them that cheap!
So, what is he going to do with them? SELL’EM, of course!! Rather than break up this group, they are all going to one person. Is he going the Heritage Auction route? How about Christie’s or Sotherby’s? Nope! he’s giving our dear customers at CBH first crack!
“How much?”, you ask? Just 250 bucks! and, we’ll threw in a microfiche viewer! Oh, did I forget to mention that these are microfiche copies? No, duh? Whadja expect for $250? I bought these back in the early 90′s from Microfiche International. I just googled them and see that these were listed at $41.95 per set of 5 and the viewer was $350, (I know, that was a lot of money back then) but the DC and Marvel sets are no longer available – they probably lost the license – making these very scarce, eh?
My original intention was to make these available to customers for viewing, but never followed through with the project. The viewer and its bulb probably have less than an hour’s worth of use. It is light-weight and measures 13″ wide, 14″ deep, and 18″ tall and when used, you are actually seeing the pages full size, from original copies, and in full color!
Come and get it! We only have one set! Again, our customers are getting first dibs, but if not sold within a week, this goes public!
While I’m typing – looking for something to do this Sunday, May 15th? Join me at the South Jersey Comic Book show at the Holiday Inn on Rt 70 (2175 West Marlton Pike) in Cherry Hill, NJ. Show hours are 10 – 4. As a special to CBH website readers, mention this blog when you stop by my table and get 50% off any and all individually priced comics in the boxes (not “wall” books). Besides these, there will be sets, dollar books, and trades, all at discount prices. Fliers are available in the shop.
Oh, and by the way, the answer to my last blog’s trivia question is : Kentucky! The westernmost part of Fulton County is called the Kentucky Bend and the only way to get to it by car is to travel through a part of Tennessee. Or, you could take a boat across to Missouri and then into Kentucky

You had me for a minute there Paul.
Hello.
I was wondering what other DC Golden Age comics you have on microfiche.
Thank you,
Perry Albert
