The titles you missed in 2010
With all the main titles from week to week that you have to it’s hard to know what other things you should pick up and try out (especially with all those little things being $4 bucks – or more – a pop) but here are a few that I think you should try out if already didn’t beat you over the head with it. And now that a ton of titles have dropped back a buck it’s easier to try out some things here and there.
Steve Rogers: Super Soldier: That’s right, Steve Rogers: Super Soldier. Not Captain America. Taking numbers and kicking ass. Nuff said.
Warriors Three: Thor and Hydra agents all in one monthly book, written by the guy who has put out 101 consistent issues of greatness (minus that tragic cross over event) for Fables. Need I say more? This comic is heavy or deep – just plain fun.
Scarlet by Bendis: Avengers is great at the moment (seriously, great) but I think Bendis brings his A-game when he isn’t writing the main stream stuff. Scarlet is his current ongoing book about what happens when one woman is pushed too far (hell hath no fury). If you dig it, go check out Alias (a previous work by Bendis) out in TPB and slated to be a TV show in fall 2011.
Dungeons and Dragons: Ok, don’t roll your eyes and call me a nerd cuz the phones ringing and it’s the kettle on the other line. If you weren’t a member of that crew, you wouldn’t be reading this post. The DnD comic is great! Now go embrace your inner icosahedrons and pick up the first two issues.
THUNDER Agents & Morning Glories: In other words – anything written by Nick Spencer. Yeah, you’re gunna wanna read these before this guy takes over Marvel and DC and drinks the Kool-Aid.
Superman Earth One: The stand alone hard cover that only came out as a hard cover by J.M. Straczynski rocked the socks off of a Superman origin story. Ignore the news media and their comments about it being Twilight for superhero fans – it wasn’t. This is a down to earth Superman book that was attempting to reacquaint the reader with Superman. Make him human, or as close to human as a Kryptonian can be, and make several different reading groups enjoy the classic character. I am not a Superman fan. I know, smite me. But even I enjoyed this read.
