Tell the Comic Publishers what you think!

Joe and Kita are off to Texas soon for a meeting of the Legion of Super-Retailers and we’ll be sitting down face-to-face with representatives, editors, chief creative officers and grand poobahs from most of the major comic publishers. One whole day will be spent just with DC Comics editorial and management. We want to use this opportunity to pass along your feedback to the movers and shakers that matter.  So here’s your challenge…

By Wednesday, February 9 we need answers to the following questions. Just a few or as many words as you have time to do. Genuine and constructive feedback only please, no flaming or invectives. Just the facts work better than rants.

Primarily we want answers relating to your DC Comics buying but are happy to pass along messages to other publishers.

1- Have you added or dropped any DC titles recently? What titles? Why? Did cost or quality affect your decision?

2- How do you perceive the DC Comics brand and the DC Universe titles presently?

3- How did the price increase and the recent return to $2.99 affect your buying habits? At the lower price will you be adding titles?

4- Do you have a weekly comics budget/limit? Or do you buy the same titles regardless of how many of them come out in a single week?

5- What DC titles do you regularly purchase?  What’s your favorite character arc or storyline currently?

6- Anything else you want to add.

Believe it or not, DC takes retailer feedback seriously so help us make sure we’re getting it right.

And if you know any good steakhouses in the Dallas area, Kita is looking to get her carnivore on while she’s down there.

Please comment or email us. Thanks!

    1. I recently added Supergirl, because I also recently became a fan of Nick Spencer’s writing.

    2. I don’t really buy into the big events, so I have no clue what’s been going in Green Lantern or Batman, but overall, I think DC does a better job than Marvel of not cluttering their product. I could be wrong, but it seems like there are fewer DC titles than Marvel titles (which is good). But DC has always seemed more classic to me, and slightly more adult, if that makes sense.

    3. I definitely think the return to 2.99 has been enticing for buyers–especially younger ones. I personally spend most of my comics budget on trade paperbacks, but it’s nice to have the few titles I do collect in monthly form be a little cheaper. Every penny counts.

    4. I have a very vague definition of my comics budget. When I start to feel slightly sick to my stomach from spending, I stop.

    5. If we count titles I collect in trade paperback, as well as Vertigo titles, I currently keep up with: T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, Supergirl, Scalped, and Hellblazer. I plan to collect Batman Inc., Batman and Robin, Legion of Superheroes, and Action Comics in trade, and also pick up that Jimmy Olsen special.

    6. I think DC is doing a decent job, but they can always do better. At least with Vertigo, they bring a diversity to the table that Marvel doesn’t, and the price restoration was nice to see. As a fanboy, I wish R.E.B.E.L.S. didn’t have to be canceled, but I know that’s a pipe dream. I also wish they’d put a more dynamic writer on Doom Patrol and really give that book a sincere marketing push for once. Get Warren Ellis to do a story arc on it or something, under the condition he actually finishes it. I dunno.

    Thanks Matt!
