WE Are the walking dead

Walking Dead In 2003, writer Robert Kirkman released a comic that asked “what happens after the credits roll in a zombie movie?” That book is Image Comics’ The Walking Dead, and after nearly eighty issues, it continues to be one of the publisher’s top selling books.  The story is pretty basic: “what-would-you-do-in-a-zombie-apocalypse?”, however, the title is incredibly character driven and you find yourself deeply attached to the often rotating cast.

At the center of our zombie epic is Rick Grimes, a police officer who wakes in the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound.  But something isn’t right, he is alone. No patients, no doctors, no family, not a person in sight. Rick is out to find answers and his family with no idea of what is going on. There are so many twists and turns in this series that I can’t give too many plot details without spoiling it. I can assure you that this is probably the best title I am reading at the moment and I find it at the top of my stack monthly. Kirkman’s genius really shines in The Walking Dead.  Every character, large or small, is well written and so many situations had me on the edge of my seat.

I will be honest and say that the Walking Dead is a better experience in trade form only because the story goes by so fast that you just want to keep going and going. I started with the compendium that collects the first forty eight issues… I read it in one sitting, then picked up as many trades as money allowed in the following weeks. I think within two or three weeks of starting I was caught up and now am reading it monthly.

Walking Dead TVThere is no better time than now to get started. On Halloween night, The Walking Dead TV series debuts on AMC and as you have seen here on the site, it looks AWESOME! Zombies are on track to be the new hot trend and that is perfectly okay with me. Enough vampires!  So this week, in the spirit of Halloween, pick up some Walking Dead material.  I guarantee that you’ll be craving more! (Braaainsss)
