SHADOWLAND

Warning: minor spoilers
Exploding from the pages of the best book you aren’t reading; Daredevil, comes Shadowland! Written by Andy Diggle (The Loser, Green Arrow: Year One), the five issue mini-series debuts on July 8th and appears to be something that has been in the works since the 1980s. Frank Miller took Matt Murdock from a poor man’s Spiderman to a dark and gritty, more adult character. Things have never been easy for Matt. Just about every woman he has ever loved has been taken from him in one form or another, literally losing everything except the clothes on his back. He was even publicly outted and put on trial for being Daredevil. Everything changes in Shadowland.
For those of you who haven’t been reading what has been considered the most consistently well-written comic over the last ten years, I’ll try to sum things up. Matt Murdock has always been the guardian devil of Hell’s Kitchen, whether it is in the courtroom or in the back alleys. He has been pushed to the brink and has returned numerous times, but something is different about him lately. With the actions of Norman Osborn, H.A.M.M.E.R, and the Dark Avengers spilling over on to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen (mainly Bullseye blowing up an apartment, killing everyone inside), Daredevil is forced to respond. As new leader of The Hand, Daredevil will try to use the crazed ninja assassin league for good; however the lines of good and evil are heavily blurred as time passes. There seems to be no Matt Murdock, only Daredevil.
Many teaser images has shown up on the internet, calling Shadowland; “the birth of Marvel’s villain?” and “The battle for the soul of Hell’s Kitchen”. Luke Cage, Moon Knight, and even Ghostrider will be showing up in this all-out war!
I personally have very high hopes for this title, I have been a Daredevil fan for a long time and I’d like to see the character finally get bumped up from the B-list, much like Ironman has in recent years. I think the events will have a huge impact on the Marvel Universe, so pick this up as well as the last three collected volumes of Daredevil and see what you are missing!
