There Will Be No Joy In Mudville Tonight!

Mighty Casey is looking at strike three!

Huh? What? I’m talking American Idol here, folks. If you look WAY back in these blogs, you will see that I said that Crystal Bowersox had my vote as the best, and I still stand by it, although Lee was great last night. Casey has the look, which has carried him this far, and a pretty decent voice, but his performance was dull – sort of like the whole season this year. It should be Crystal and Lee next week. Will Crystal’s unconventional look cost her, as it did Adam Lambert last year? Quick, how many can even name last year’s winner!

Anyway, really, I am NOT a fan of so-called “reality” shows. You will never catch me watching an episode a some chef screaming at everyone or engrossed in the doings of wannabes from the Jersey Shore or Desperate B-list Celebrities – even Ozzie! I admit to watching the first two seasons of Survivor, but once everyone learned how to play the game and play up to the camera, it lost its appeal. I view American Idol as being less scripted, except for the beginning shows when they air those who obviously are in it for their 15 minutes of fame or infamy. Maybe I’m naive, but I believe that Simon Cowell’s comments are basically his attempt to be honest. He is a music producer and that’s his real job. In the end, he will probably sign one or more of the performers. Other “talent” shows have noticed that an outspoken judge, especially one with an English accent, equals ratings, so there are many Cowell imitators out there.

While I’m on the topic of music – CUBANE, as you know, is not presently gigging. Tom left to pursue his drug dealing career (he’s a pharmacist) so Matt has been doing double duty on guitar and drums as the boys write their second album. Word has it that they have found their muse, even though Matt has been called away to work on cleaning up the gulf. He works for his Dad’s company which specializes in such clean-ups. Through the miracle of today’s technology, Paul and Shawn have been in constant contact with him as they send their music ideas back and forth over the internet.

Another reminder – this coming Sunday, I will be set up at the Aetna Fire Hall Collectibles Show down the street with lots on comics that have NOT been in the shop!! Loads and loads of sets (all priced at one dollar or less per comic), as well as several hundred “fresh to the market” silver age comics will make their debut. Admission is 2 bucks (a dollar with one of their fliers), but copy this blog, bring it with you, and I’ll take $2 off your purchase! Only one offer per person, of course. Also, a special coupon will be available to show attendees only! This is basically a sports card show and I may be one of only two vendors with comics, but I will try to make it worth your trip.
