Aw, Baby, you KNOW what I like!
A little homage to the Big Bopper there. Am I dating myself? Anyway, another miscellaneous blog.
Lots of good news to report. First of all, do ya hear that Krispy Kreme is coming back to Delaware?! Not sure of exactly where or when, but rest assured, I will past this important information along as soon as I get reliable intel!
A slight snafu, but we still plan on going ahead with our 4th of July Flea Market. Turns out that the Natural Foods store changed their charter and will be open this year on the holiday and the Sunday Farmers’ Market will also be taking place that day. Now, though that means that we will not have the entire parking lot at our disposal, it should mean that there will be an even better turn-out of potential customers. It looks like we will be using the parking spaces along the wall by the East End Cafe plus those in front of the shop. The Natural Foods store is asking that their merchants refrain from parking in the front as they have been doing in the past. To be consistent, we would probably require our flea marketers to also park behind the shops. Last year, we had everyone park in the adjacent spot, making unpacking and loading easier, but without the cars, it should be an even friendlier atmosphere.
Speaking of the East End, have you read that the owners of MOJO 13 have bought it? I give big props to these guys since they promote original music. CUBANE has played at their Claymont venue a few times and I’m sure you will catch them next door in the near future.
Joe has reduced the “dollar” books to 4 for a buck! The man’s insane.
Saturday, April 17th, I will be having a garage sale at my home. For you yard sale nuts, there’s a community sale going on in my neighborhood. Now, I can’t speak for the others, but I will be offering coins, baseball cards, car parts, baskets, miscellaneous interesting stuff and… You KNOW what I like! Yep, 1,000′s of them at a buck or less. There will be many, many sets and runs that must go! This will be a go - Rain or Shine – since I’m holding it in my garage. So, head up Kirkwood Hwy and make a left at the traffic light at Prices Corner, between Troop 6 and the bowling alley (Albertson Blvd). Go through the light at the next block and bear left at the triangle, left at the first stop sign and then an immediate left into Ronna Place. You’ll see my Chevelle in front of the house. 36 Ronna Place Wilm. 19808. Figure on an 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM time. Show up at 7:00 AM and my German Shepherd will greet you!
Idol fans, Crystal Bowersox deserves to win – hands down! By the way, does anyone know the origin of the expression “hands down”? As soon as I typed it, it occurred to me that it doesn’t make any sense, although lots of people use it. Hmmm.
See ya Saturday.

“Hands Down” refers to early 19th century card players when the dealer would say “Hands Down” at the end of the round. Meaning to “show your hand” or “lay it out there” to see what everyones got. Hope this helps!!
Well……..
Another source says:
Many phrases have originated as jargon in the world of sport, including several from boxing. The memory of Muhammad Ali dancing round the ring with his hands at his side and going on the win the bout might encourage us to think that that is the origin of this one. Not quite, although it does come from sport – horse racing.
Jockeys need to keep a tight rein in order to encourage their horse to run. Anyone who is so far ahead that he can afford to slacken off and still win he can drop his hands and loosen the reins – hence winning ‘hands down’. This is recorded from the mid 19th century. For example, ‘Pips’ Lyrics & Lays, 1867:
“There were good horses in those days, as he can well recall, But Barker upon Elepoo, hands down, shot by them all.”
It began to be used in a figurative sense, to denote an easy win in other contexts, from the early 20th century.
Many thanks again to “Superdan” for once again, not only for taking the time to read one of my ramblings, but to take the time to research the answer to another burning question. We are all illuminated!
