6. We got class and character on Free Comic Book Day
10 Cool Things about Free Comic Book Day 2009 at Captain Blue Hen Comics
#6. Aside from risking fatal carpal tunnel syndrome from all the sketching they’re doing, our intrepid band of Guest Artists also take time out to do free drawing workshops next door. Whether you’re 3, 30 or 50 there’ll be something to learn. Scott Neely will show you how to draw your favorite Cartoon Network stars, Buz Hasson and Ken Haeser teach you monsters and the macabre, Franco will be illustrating the tinier and titan-ier corners of the DCU, and Th3rd World Studios will answer questions about the ins and outs of comic publishing and breaking into the business. Workshops are free, informal, fun and open to anyone as long as we have seating.
Here’s the schedule so far:
Workshops at Newark Arts Alliance
12:15 to 12:45- Th3rd World Studios- Publisher Mike Devito and Stuff of Legend artist, Charles Paul Wilson III
1 to 1:30 Scott Neely, Scooby Doo artist
1:45 to 2:15- Franco, Tiny Titans
2:30 to 3:00- Buz Hasson and Ken Haeser, Living Corpse
3:15 to 3:45- Jamar Nicholas and Rich Faber
Now we know you’re really here to get your picture taken with Spider-Man and Darth Vader, maybe even the Mayor when he stops by. Given their busy careers stomping the Jedi and stopping crime it can be a bit of a challenge pinning down a time for their visit, but tentatively Spider-Man, Darth Vader, Storm Trooper and TIE Fighter pilot are scheduled for 12:30 to about 3, possibly later. You can call ahead if necessary. Bring your own camera or get a Polaroid picture for $4, half of which will benefit the Newark Arts Alliance and Kirkwood Highway Library.
