Batman Sues
Believe it or not, in southeastern Turkey there is a city called Batman. That’s not the strange news, though. The Turkish burg is suing Warner Brothers and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan over the use of the city’s name. Huseyin Kalkin, Batman’s mayor, filed suit after journalists gave him the idea as a way out of the city’s financial troubles.
Yes, the city has been around longer than the DC Comics character, but the city of Batman will find their suit comes way too late. The head of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Commission of the Istanbul Bar notes that the period for objecting to the registration of the Batman trademark is now past, all over the world.
