As you know, we are privileged as having been selected as one of the hosts for the Steve Dillon Tour to benefit the Hero Initiative. Each participating store is being asked to try to raise funds to help out this worthy cause. We will be coming up with different plans to do that and welcome any ideas you may have!! If you have something interesting, let us know.
One thought was to have an auction. We have not had a comic book auction in quite some time - maybe it is overdue!. Here are some preliminary thoughts:
1) We will accept consignments for the auction and instead of taking a commission as an auctioneer would, 20% of the sale price will go the the Hero Initiative. The consignor gets the rest. Captain Blue Hen Comics is offering its services and site for free.
2) Consignors may set a reasonable reserve.
3) All consignments will have a starting bid of at least $5.00, so consider that when considering what to submit. We may have to limit the number of consignments that one person may submit, but think of this a way to move some material, make a few bucks, and help out some of those artists and creators who have given us so much enjoyment.
4) Consignments will be available for inspection at the store and wil be listed on the website and anywhere else we can think of!
5) The date of the auction has not been set, but we would like to have consignments in soon so we can get it organized.
6) So that as many who want can participate, this will be a “silent” auction, not a live auction. We will accept written bids (no phone/fax bids - you must come in the store to place your original bid on a lot!) and post the current leading bid for each lot. On the last day of the auction, we will allow those who have already placed a bid on a lot, to call and make one last bid on any of those lots already bid on. We will NOT reveal the amount of any bids placed the last day to encourage everyone to BID TO WIN!! You will only know the preceeding day’s high bid. Naturally, earliest bid wins in the event of a tie. Moral of the story: Bid early and bid high!
7) All winner’s wil be notified by phone the next day and are expected to pay within one week.
8) What can we submit? Naturally - comics, but we will consider anything that might spur interest and make a few dollars for all concerned. WE do reserve the right to use our discretion and refuse any submission due to content, size, or value.
9) We’re considering asking for a one dollar per lot up front fee. This woud be deducted from the 20% portion if sold, but kept as a donation if a particular lot does not generate any interest. Thoughts?
Again, we want your input. Nothing is finalized, yet. Thanks paul
