New DC Comics Line: ‘Vertigo Crime’

At Comic Con in San Diego DC Senior Vice President and Vertigo Editor-in-Chief, Karen Berger, announced a new publishing line: Vertigo Crime, a series of graphic novels for readers who enjoy crime, thriller, detective, and mystery fiction.

Set to launch in June of 2009, Vertigo Crime will be published as single, one-off hardcover graphic novels. These crime novels will be in black-and-white and have a very modern look.

In an interview for icv2.com, Berger characterized the Vertigo Crime line as: “fast-paced, smart, sexy, edgy tough books that are very readable. They feel like Vertigo books, but they will read like fast-paced crime novels.

Golden Age Comics, Savage Sword of Conan, & an incredible Bass Guitar

A few new items for sale:

Just picked up two collections of over 200 Golden Age/early Silver Age comics. In the collection was a Showcase #4 - yep, the first S.A. Flash that is considered the beginning of the Silver Age. Sorry, it’s gone already!! But, there’s lots more to pick from. Check out the Showcase #5, single digit Brave & Bolds, early Superman, Batman, Actions, Adventures, World’s Finest, as well as some Disneys and other funny animal comics.

Conan fans - we picked up a nice collection of Conan related comics and magazines recently. We sold the almost complete set of Conans already, plus a few other sets, but, we still have a real nice run of Savage Swords. Most look like they were plucked off the stands and then just stored away. A nice opportunity to upgrade your collection.

By the way, these green-tagged items are eligible for the member discount!!

Know any bass players out there looking for a sweet deal? My son is selling one of his basses, a barely used Warwick FNA Jazzman 4 string with MEC pick-ups. He’s letting it go for half of retail. Contact Paul at 383 - 7998 for more info.

If you missed Paul and his band, CUBANE last Friday night in the Spark Weekly Summer Music Series at the Union Tavern, you can catch them this Saturday at the Middletown Unicity Fest. The headliner is the ever-interesting John Waters! Due to the controversy surrounding him, the local conservatives have limited his appearance to a small venue, causing the promoters to have to cancel the appearance of Sandra Bernhard. Paul’s band, CUBANE is scheduled to go on around 5:30
P.S. If you haven’t voted for your favorite (hint, hint) original music band in the Spark Summer Series, go to www.sparkweekly.com. You can and should vote everyday through August. You will need to register. Click on the “summer series” link on the right side to get started. Thanks

You are probably asking yourself, what is TR2N? It is the sequel to the ground breaking 1980 movie Tron. At SDCC Disney released the teaser for TR2N or Tron 2. It is not on the internet just yet.

So every year there are surprises at SDCC and according to the Wizard Staff this year has been NO different. People gathered at the 20th Century Films Panel for ‘The Day the World Stood Still’ and ‘Max Payne’, then fresh off of a plane, Hugh Jackman walks in and shakes hands with Len Wein, the creator of Wolverine. Then the sweetness began, Hugh Jackman revealed footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The footage actually showed Kestreal, Gambit, and Deadpool.
