Halloween and Christmas are both in July this year!

Say what?

Halloween It may seem a little early to be thinking about your plans for this year, but the July Previews that just arrived is asking us to place our orders this month for costumes and inexpensive comic book give-a-ways. Check page 21 for some Halloween related “ashcans” (those smaller sized comics) that can be purchased in bundles of 25 for only $3.00 per bundle. We are not making a cent on these, in fact, we lose the cost of shipping, but if it helps send out the message that comic books are fun … Here’s the catch: you MUST place your order and pre-pay this month.
Also, you will find some relatively inexpensive costumes for adults listed. Have you ever wanted to dress up as Supergirl? Princess Leia? (no, no, forget that - one of our members already did that on national TV and it wasn’t pretty) Speaking of not pretty, how about a Hellboy costume?
Speaking of Hellboy, it’s our

Christmas in July, Heckapalooza Sale connected with the Hellboy Day, July 2nd Phew! What a stretch for that seque! Anyway, the monster sale starts that day and the signs say that “some” green tags will be included. Here are some specifics: ALL green-tagged comics and trades NOT in the showcases will be included in this sale!! That’s right, ALL of those green-tagged silver age comics and modern age keys in the bins just to the left of the new comics section, ALL of the green-tagged comics in the bins in front of the register (war, westerns, Disney, TV/Movie, etc) and ALL of the green-tagged trades that are already deep-discounted!! Remember, for best selection, buy early. There will be NO lay-a-ways.

And just to get some conversation going, let me play Andy Rooney for a moment.I drive a big gas-guzzler and I suppose there are people who want to criticize me for that, but while behind the wheel of one of my few luxuries, I get irritated by the actions of others. Oh it’s not full blown road rage, but while we are waiting for the inevitable ban on cell phone use in cars, it seems to me that any idiot who is watching TV or a DVDplayer while driving needs an instant ticket. That kind of behavior has to be covered by some law already in the books - inattentive driving, anyone! Yes, I saw someone with a small TV monitor or DVD player mounted just above his rear - view mirror the other day. I was close enough to know it wasn’t a GPS system. It was on and he was the only person in the car.Ticket this bozo for all of our sakes!!

Want another one? Ok, how about those people who have to have their “cute” little doggie sitting in their laps as they drive? Immediate ticket!!

Another you say? I’d ticket any adult who drives around while smoking with a trapped infant or child in the car. If we have to protect adults from making their own decision whether to go into a bar/restaurant that may allow smoking, how about those who can not make that decision?

Lastly, and this might strike a raw nerve with some of you- not very “PC” of me. What is the deal with all of the “In Loving Memory…” decals that have been appearing on the back windows of cars recently? It’s not that I don’t sympathize with someone who has lost a loved one, but why advertise it on the back of your window? When I first moved into Delaware and tried to register my car, I was made to remove a decal approximately 1 1/2″ by 15″ of my university. This had to be done immediately, while in the inspection lane - it obstruced my view! Evidently, these announcements do not obstruct one’s view, but either way, I would really like someone to explain the me exactly WHAT is “In Loving memory of…” This phrase used to be connected to an act of kindness or charity or beauty. WHAT is being done in the name of the lost one? Believe me, it is not necessarily courteous or safe driving! Anyone have an explanation?
