– An ongoing series of new stories. Each arc takes place in a different era of the Corleone Family featuring work by different creative teams. The first story is by Boom! Studios Editor-in-Chief, Mark Waid! (I think we have to put the exclamation point behind his name now.) [p. 244]

Serenity: Better Days #1
– Joss Whedon returns to another of his creations for new stories! Brett Matthews illustrates this three-issue tale of the old crew. [p. 30]

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull GN – This is an adaptation of the upcoming film. [p. 33]

DC COMICS
Justice League: The New Frontier Special One Shot
– Just in time for the New Frontier DVD release this special brings lucky readers a “Lost Tale” by Darwyn Cooke. [p. 72]

Superman #674 – Kurt Busiek brings Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan to the DC Universe. [p. 79]

Green Lantern #29 – Geoff Johns and new fan favorite artist Ivan Reis are on fire, and the new GL arc “Secret Origin” should prove it. “The Sinestro Corps War” introduced the “Blackest Night” prophecy, and this storyline explores Abin Sur’s connection. [p. 85]

Booster Gold Volume 1: 52 Pick-Up Hard Cover – Geoff Johns writes this with Booster’s creator Dan Jurgens providing art for this best 52 and Countdown crossover ever. This book gives Booster a new purpose. [p. 85]

Jack Kirby’s O.M.A.C.: One Man Army Corps Hard Cover – DC is collecting all of Kirby’s stuff in the best way. The King came up with the original concepts for OMAC, Brother Eye, and Buddy Blank that are used today. [p. 90]

JLA Presents: Aztek—The Ultimate Man TPBUltimates creator, Mark Millar’s first DC work was to create a mainstream (although very strange) superhero with Grant Morrison (Batman). [p. 92]

The Starman Omnibus Volume 1 Hard Cover – If any modern ongoing superhero series deserves the Omnibus treatment, it is James Robinson and Tony Harris’ Starman. The modern version of Justice Society of America could not exist without it. The series was as great as Ex Machina is now. It is a real outgrowth of mature comics like Watchmen, and has a beginning, middle, and end like Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. [p. 92]

The Young Liars #1
– Dave Lapham produced Dave’s (of CBH fame) favorite comic series of all time, Stray Bullets, Lapham writes spectacular character studies engulfed in realistic, sometimes ultra-violent, gritty stories. Early indicators show this new ongoing playing to Lapham’s strengths. What if Mickey and Mallory from Natural Born Killers were a guitar player and brain-damaged rich girl? Let’s find out. [p. 114]

The Darkness vs Eva #1
– Dracula’s daughter (introduced in Army of Darkness) meets Top Cow’s the Darkness. [p. 261]

Army of Darkness/Xena: Why Not? #1 – Not only does Ash meet Xena, but Ash meets Autolycus too! That’s right, the brilliant guys at Dynamite have come up for a way for Bruce Campbell to meet Bruce Campbell. Don’t you want to double your Bruce Campbell pleasure? [p. 261]

– The history of comic books starring the classic creators by Action Philosophers’ Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey. [p. 290]

#1
– Peter David (X-Factor) created a new set of characters for a Trek book series. To celebrate their tenth anniversary, David wrote this new story about his characters set in the Next Gen universe. [p. 301]

Ghost Whisperer: The Haunted #1 – The writers of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s TV show bring the concept to comics. [p. 305]

FX #1 – John Byrne is the artist for this new superhero series. [p. 305]

IMAGE COMICS
Dark Ivory #1
– A teen girl fascinated with Goth culture meets a real vampire in this mini-series from Joseph Michael Linsner. [p. 142]

Nixon’s Pals GN – I could not come up with a hook better than the one in the solicitation: “An original super-powered crime novel! Elmore Leonard meets Jack Kirby!” Joe Casey (Godland) is like Grant Morrison if he could follow through with an idea (love ya, Grant!). [p. 152

MARVEL COMICS
Dark Tower: The Long Road Home #1
– More of Stephen King’s Gunslinger from the creators of the first comic series. [p. 3]

Captain Marvel #5 – Brian Reed (Ms. Marvel) is one of the best of Marvel’s new breed of writers (including Jeff Parker, Dan Slott, and Fred Van Lente) who love the old Marvel and write fun and engaging stories. This issue is a “Secret Invasion” tie-in. [p. 25]

Franklin Richards: Spring Break One Shot – Another installment of the brilliantly fun “Son of a Genius”. For fans of Calvin & Hobbes. [p. 29]

The Last Defenders #1 – Nighthawk leads an all-new line-up of Defenders: She-Hulk, Colossus, and Blazing Skull (the dude from the Invaders that looks like Ghost Rider). Joe Casey gives the team a new purpose in this mini-series. [p. 35]

New Avengers #39 – David Mack provides the art for this “Secret Invasion” tie-in. [p. 43]

Ms. Marvel #25 – Could Ms. Marvel be one of the best comics published by Marvel? The great Brian Reed (see the “Captain Marvel #5” entry) writes this double-sized “Secret Invasion: Infiltration” tie-in. [p. 44]

Wolverine: First Class #1 – This is really a Kitty Pryde series in disguise. The “First Class” idea here is the X-Men when Kitty first gets to Xavier’s. Even if you think you don’t need another Wolvie series, maybe that sells it. No? Did I mention that Fred Van Lente writes it? (No, I haven’t recommended everything written by him. I didn’t mention the new Power Pack. [p. 49]) [p. 66]

Logan #1 – You don’t need another Wolvie series do you? What if it’s just a mini by Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) and Edward Risso (100 Bullets)? [p. 69]

Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom: Doomquest Premiere Hardcover – Get revved up for the upcoming Iron Man/Doom comic from David Michelinie and Ron Lim with this collection. For the first two parts of the time-bending, armor-clashing trilogy, check out this book which features work by Michelinie, Bob Layton, and John Romita Jr. [p. 91]
