Captain America Returns With A New Costume By Alex Ross
Nine months after the death of Steve Rogers, a new Captain America returns in Captain America #34, due on January 16th. The new Cap is not Steve Rogers, and he will have a new look as designed by Alex Ross. At series writer Ed Brubaker’s suggestion Ross redesigned the character along with Brubaker, Captain America penciller Steve Epting, and Marvel editor Tom Brevoort.
Ross and the others looked back to the 1940s roots of the character for the new design. Captain America creators, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby originally gave Cap triangular shield, an element that Ross used for the chestplate of the new Captain America costume. The new design also includes the more familiar circular shield, and oddly enough, a pistol and an army knife.
Marvel will not release the identity of the new Captain America, so we’ll all just have to wait until January to find out.
So, who’s the new Cap? Anyone care to venture a guess or two? Leave a comment!
