The Savage Sword of Conan TPB – Dark Horse is reprinting Marvel’s Conan magazine from the ‘70s. The magazine had great art and stories that were grittier than the comic book. [p. 37]
Batman and the Outsiders #1 – Batman wants his own team; Batman gets his own team. Tony Bedard (Exiles) writes this renewed series featuring Martian Manhunter, Catwoman, Aquaman, Metamorpho, and more. [p. 67]
Green Arrow/Black Canary #1 – A new, ongoing series. [p. 68]
Death of the New Gods #1 – Jim Starlin is the master of cosmic comic stories as in Dreadstar and Thanos. Starlin is the perfect creator to write the ending for Kirby’s epic. [p. 69]
Batman #670 – Grant Morrison writes this prelude to the next big Dark Knight story: “The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghulâ€. [p. 79]
Robin Annual #7 – “The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul†tie-in with art by Jason Pearson. [p. 79]
Simon Dark #1 – Horror comic hotshot Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) brings a new guardian to Gotham City. [p. 79]
Action Comics #858 – Artist Gary Frank comes aboard as the new regular artist, and writer Geoff Johns kicks off a new storyline to celebrate. Coming out of the Justice League/Justice Society crossover, “Lighting Saga,†is “Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroesâ€. [p. 82]
Justice Society of America #10 – Alex Ross (Marvels) returns to the world of Kingdom Come with this sequel written by Ross and Geoff Johns with art by Dale Eaglesham. [p. 89]Showcase Presents: Suicide Squad Vol. 1 TPB – DC’s Showcase reprint book series enters the ‘80s with this John Ostrander cult classic. [p. 98]
Showcase Presents: The Secret Society of Super-Villains Vol. 1 TPB – Like the “Legion of Doom†from Superfriends, the Secret Society is an assemblage of the baddest bad guys joined together to make DC’s heroes miserable. This is ‘70s fun featuring the revival of Captain Comet. [p. 98]

Vinyl Underground #1 – Morrison Shepherd leads a team of crack investigators to solve crimes that involve the weirdness of London’s dark underbelly. “A 21st century cross between [Grant Morrison’s] Invisibles and [TV’s] CSI.†[p. 119]
The Sword #1 – The Luna Brothers, the creative team behind the superhero/dramedy series Ultra and the sci-fi/horror series Girls, return with a new comic series exploring yet another genre. The Sword is about a college girl, a legendary sword, and a quest. [p. 119]
Crawl Space: Xxxombies #1 – The last thing you want on the set of an adult film is an army of the undead! Brought to you by the creators of Walking Dead, Fear Agent, and Sea of Red. [p. 141]
What If? Planet Hulk One Shot – Greg Pak, writer of “Planet Hulk†and its sequel, “World War Hulkâ€, devise three alternate takes on his story. [p. 36]
Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four #29 – Will the Hulk smash The FF? Written by Steve Niles (!?). [p. 37]
Marvel Zombies 2 #1 - Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillip’s return to their biggest hit. What’s in store for the far future of the Marvel Zombies universe? [p. 42]
Omega the Unknown #1 – Novelist Jonathan Lethem was a huge fan of Steve Gerber’s 1975 series of the same name, so he approached Marvel to do this sequel. [p. 49]
X-Men: Messiah Complex One Shot – Spinning out of House of M and “Endangered Species,†“Messiah Complex†is the next big story in the x-world. This one shot by Ed Brubaker (Daredevil) and Marc Silvestri (Top Cow) is the first chapter. [p. 59]
Chamber of Mystery: Voodoo Volume 1 and Witchcraft Volume 1 Soft Covers – What else was going on in horror comics besides EC in the pre-Comics Code era? This is the best of the rest. [p. 325]
