eBay listings going off tonight, 8/12
Tonight, Sunday, 8/12, a group of offerings are ending on eBay from “cbhcomics”. It’s a somewhat unusual group, mostly Prince Valiant volumes and some golden age. As always on eBay, the lots have a number of people watching (eBay lets sellers know the number of people who have clicked “watch this item”), but they haven’t placed a bid, yet. If interested, get in on the action and, naturally, you won’t have to pay any postage if picking up at the shop!
I’m thinking about putting up some silver and golden age superheroes this week, but I’m going on a short vacation, so we’ll see.
You might ask why do we even bother to put items up on eBay or an in-store auction (which we plan on doing again soon) when we have a shop to display them in and it seems that the prices realized are significantly below guide value. It boils down to wanting to move the items. If no one in the NewarK area has shown interest in a comic for months, we may as well go national. Getting $30 or less for a comic that we priced out at $75 according to Overstreet is better than not selling it at all.
Keep this in mind when offering books for us to purchase. Just because Overstreet lists something, does not mean it will sell at that price in what we would deem a reasonable amount of time. It costs money to sell a comic - either the advertising to get people in the shop plus the costs of maintaining its operation or the time and fees associated with listing on an internet auction such as eBay; and still, there are no guarantees. On top of that, members at Captain Blue Hen Comics & Entertainment get an 25% discount on back issues, as long as they are in good standing. The majority of our back issue sales go to them, so when we are making an offer on either a collection or an individual item, we have all of these factors to consider. The only guarantee in the transaction is that the check you get from us is good and you can spend it anywhere you want. We are still buying, though.
