Brian Posehn–King of the Summer Blockbuster: Fantastic Four & Surf’s Up
While I was on vacation, I saw two movies: Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer and Surf’s Up (I have two little kids; I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie that didn’t have some sort of animation). Both of these fun films were all the better for the presence of the excellent stand-up/actor, Brian Posehn!
I have enjoyed Posehn’s work since HBO’s “Mr. Show with Bob and David”. You may know Brian from his many TV and movie appearances where he is usually portraying a geeky, gangly oddball (in Newsradio, Friends, etc.). In FF, he is the minister trying to perform Reed & Sue’s wedding ceremony. In Surf’s Up, he is Cody Maverick’s disapproving older brother, Glen.
Brian Posehn’s comedy is in the vein of his buddies David Cross, Patton Oswalt (he of the other animated summer blockbuster, Ratatouille) and Zach Galifianakis. Posehn tends to play up his nerdiness. His distinctive voice is perfect for animated characters. He even wrote a comic book, The Last Christmas available in TPB. He can be seen on the irreverent Sarah Silverman Program now on Comedy Central. Check out his website and myspace page.
Let’s hope we see more Brian Posehn coming to a theater near you.
