A: Godland
Bizarre, Kirby-style cosmic super-heroics are the order of the day in this ongoing comics series. Joe Casey captures the inventive exhuberance of comic genius unleashed–think Alan Moore’s Supreme, Stan Lee’s Silver Surfer, and Erik Larsen’s most inventive Savage Dragon stories. Former astronaut Adam Archer battles strange would-be world beaters while contemplating the alien origins of the cosmic transformation that gave him his powers. Archer befriends the alien dog being called Maxim, teams with fellow heroes such as the Captain America/Mr. Miracle amalgam Crashman, and fights odd foes like evil head-in-a-jar Basil Cronus.
Scioli dazzles with his Jack Kirby by way of Larsen and Mike Mignola art. Scioli’s design evokes Kirby’s Eternals, Inhumans, and Machine Man, and Kamandi work. He’s spectacular at the weird machinery, cosmic energy, and freaky aliens.
