ALL-STAR SUPERMAN Review

All Star SupermanALL-STAR SUPERMAN
DC COMICS
Writer: Grant Morrison
Penciller: Frank Quitely
Inker: Jamie Grant

Morrison (New X-Men) and Quitely (WE3) remind readers of the Silver Age while propelling Superman and his classic cast (Lois, Lex, Jimmy, etc.) into the 21st century.

Grant Morrison takes everything that was great about Superman (the Daily Planet, Jimmy Olsen’s signal watch, the Fortress of Solitude) and throws in those wild ideas that run rampant through Morrison’s mind (Supes has a super-intellect, Supes gives Lois his powers for his birthday). The All-Star Superman world is a world where anything can happen: astronauts explore the surface of the sun, mythic beings like Atlas walk the earth, and aliens attack Metropolis.

Quitely’s art has never been better. His imagination has been fired by Morrison’s, and every panel is cinematic and panoramic. Jamie Grant puts the shine on this near-perfect apple. Grant makes the book realistic and fantastic all at once.

Each issue is a complete story as well as a chapter in the larger epic.

This is the best superhero comic bar none. Can DC make All-Star the “real” Superman?
